Preventing injury and reducing pain

Aches and pains sometimes seem to creep up on us from nowhere, but they often emerge from how we move habitually. By improving how we move, we can reduce pain and avoid injury.

Over years, small inefficiencies in how we move take their toll. One area overworks while another stiffens and eventually something somewhere starts to complain. The imbalances they cause can also make us more vulnerable to injury. when accidents happen.

The Feldenkrais Method® helps us to notice these patterns and develop more efficient alternatives. And it does this organically, without us having to consciously correct ourselves.

Rather than stretching or strengthening a problem spot, we learn to distribute effort through our whole selves so that no single part is made vulnerable or stressed to breaking point.

Learning to steer away from trouble

  • We learn to recognise and avoid hidden habits that cause us pain
  • Distributing movement throughout ourselves develops ease and resilience
  • Quietening our nervous system often lessens chronic pain
  • Many people find chronic pain becomes more manageable
  • By focusing on moving comfortably we recover our sense of power
  • We develop strategies to move more comfortably in our everyday lives
  • We gain the confidence to move freely again
  • Our work complements good medical care

Getting started

A one-to-one Feldenkrais session on a treatment table

Individual Sessions

In individual Feldenkrais Functional Integration® (FI) sessions, I’ll move you gently and slowly so your nervous system can sense new sensory connections and ways of organising yourself to move.

Group Classes

Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) classes are like moving puzzles which we are guided through verbally. This leaves us free to play while we attend to our inner world of sensation.
